Amazing

It's about time! Finally, someone has given me a story. I really appreciated how this author balanced her storyline with fashion, hip hop, and sex. this story was not filled with one meaningless sex scene after another. It was an adventure that kept me wanting to read more. Then, just when I thought things were settling, the adventure was on again. I did find the two male characters to be left as a bit of a mystery. However, the author did leave me wanting more. I am a fan!

Stacey Burns makes one, almost fatal mistake when she endeavours to reinvent herself to escape her seedy, King's Cross past. She enlists the help of Auckland private detectives to find out who is blackmailing her. What follows is a short, sharp, rollicking ride of half-truths and shady gangsta types that PI Dan (slightly chauvenistic) Crowley, his delightfully sane wife, Molly and side kick, Mike (sexpot) Manning have to navigate to get to the truth. Fast paced plot with a real strength in characterisation of major and minor characters. I enjoyed McLean's earlier novellas: 'Honey 'Trap', Sleeping Dogs', 'Tangled Web' and 'Old Friends' and was not disappointed with this latest work. I have got to know the key characters, their foibles, their humour and the way they go about their PI business. It is always interesting to see the 'underbelly' of Auckland and in 'Dirty 'Deeds' I was amused to learn that the trendy, laid back suburb of Titirangi is actually a hotbed of gangsta homelife. If you are after a neatly tied together plot, action and 'real' people, I recommend these stories. Start with the first one, though and see how McLean builds on their world while staying faithful to the characters.

One of the best novel I have read!

My first Ava Mallory’s novel and I’m already hooked onto her writing!

I will confess that Mercy & Mayhem is the first novel of this genre that I’ve read. I rarely read novels without romance and this seems to be the first! Mercy & Mayhem is a comical mystery novel even though the problems Mercy Mares faces might put her in danger.

What makes this novel a great read, is not just Mercy working hard to prove her innocence, but also the supporting characters! Especially Nubbin! The way this author writes, it is as if you can feel the various feelings of the characters!

The feeling that Mercy felt when she was being questioned for murder, those hatred and judging eyes that is practically radiating off every single person she met, you can feel just how much injustice she felt!

One of the best thing about this novel is the plot! I swear with each page being turned, the conspiracy theories inside my head gets more and more! It’s like watching an episode of BBC’s Sherlock!

Although not the genre that I commonly read, I do look forward to her next novel! Highly recommended for mystery and suspense readers!

A mystery that will grip you from the start

I have never read anything by this author before (nor her pen names) & this type of story is new to me too but Ava has conjured quite the whodunnit for us here. I was constantly choosing my suspect then changing my mind, concocting all sorts of motives but I was WRONG every time!

My heart went out to Mercy, this sweet nurse who is kind & caring to everyone even those who don't deserve it. A number of times I thought we had reached Mercy's breaking point but no she kept on fighting & keeping her head up.

The patients all had me wishing I could hug them or chuckling along with their witty remarks. I must say I had a soft spot for dear old Betty throughout.

I fear saying more in case I slip up & reveal any crucial details, the mystery will be best if you read for yourself, is Mercy as innocent as she claims or is there truly a criminal on the loose causing havoc for the residents of this dementia ward? You will have to read & find out.

Engaging murder mystery with a unique twist

This was a fun little mystery book for me. I enjoy a good 'whodunnit' from time to time, but this one had a twist that I've not found in other books before. There were unexpected deaths ... in an environment where deaths are well-expected ...a nursing home!

The author takes us on a journey of chaos, confusion, mystery, and vengeance. The characters are realistic, easy to identify with and quirky--everything characters should be. I would have preferred a little more description of what they looked like, but it didn't deter me from reading.

The story was tied up nicely in an intriguing way that kept me reading all the way to the end. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys light-hearted mysteries, because the one thing I found refreshing about this book was the lack of vulgarity and intense sexual situations. Not that I'm against these elements in general. They have their places in certain books. But this author was able to tell an engaging story without those elements. Who knew nursing homes could be so interesting?

A real page-turner!

Great summer read! Having read the previous book, "Death Hampton", I was excited to hear more about Detective Jericho. I enjoyed reading about a place where I spend a lot of time. It was an eye-opening look at what goes on along-side the glitzy world of the Hamptons social scene. It's scary to see how easily something like this can happen to innocent young women. Very current with what's happening in our nation concerning illegal aliens. Some shocking twists and turns kept me holding my breath to the very end! Can't wait for the next book and more Detective Jericho.

This tale of the dark side of life in the exclusive “Hamptons” is a page-turner. I could not put it down. I love the Detective Jericho character...he’s tough, funny, smart, and he has heart! There’s lots of action in "The Battle of Jericho"...a possible serial killer, human trafficking, anonymous letters. The pace is fast, and there are lots of tense moments...along with enough twists and turns to keep you turning the page. I read "Death Hampton" and loved it too. I can't wait for the next Detective Jericho book!

A beach book for all seasons...

Who knew the glittering Hamptons had a very dark side? This is a fast-paced mystery that will keep you turning the pages as Detective Neil Jericho tries to run down the cause of some very grisly evidence washing up on the local beaches. It's clear the author has done real-time research in this part of Long Island. Along with the huge houses and uber-trendy summer folk is a much less visible part of this boldface name enclave. Couldn't stop reading until the puzzle was solved. Now I'm going back to read author Marks' other books.
