A fast-paced, well-written thriller

This novel’s compelling characters, clash of cultures, unpredictable plot twists, and strong writing kept me eagerly turning the pages to the end. Rosenberg does a masterful job telling the story of Ivan, a Russian hit man anxious to finish one last job before he can retire from the business. Though I’m not a big fan of thrillers, nor do I usually sympathize with hit men, I found myself rooting for Ivan throughout his travails. This novel presents an interesting and often humorous clash of cultures between homophobic Ivan and flamboyant Foxy, creating a dynamic that ultimately leads to a theme of tolerance and understanding woven throughout its violent twists and turns. This book is not for the faint of heart; it includes graphic, well-written descriptions of violence and sexual perversion, which at times are disturbing to read. Though humor is infused throughout the book, it is ultimately a tragedy, complete with a “Russian” ending. For those who can handle the content, this book is an excellent read.

A First Rate Thriller

A violent story with abundant scenes of violence and out-of-the-mainstream sex. These scenes, however, aren’t gratuitous, but necessary elements that develop the characters and move the plot along. If this story of Ivan, a Russian hit man, struggling to understand American and Latino culture as he pursues his assigned target from Russia to the US is Rosenberg’s debut as a novelist, it is an impressive work. The story can be unsettling at times, but Rosenberg’s writing carries the plot forward, enticing the reader on. For me, Rosenberg’s greatest achievement in this novel is Ivan, a complex man we come to understand as he pursues his target, vowing that this will be his final job. A first-rate thriller.

Russian hitman comes to America

I found this to be a violent, gruesome story. It wasn't my cup of tea but this is my least preferred genre. At least this one did flow fast enough and the author does a good job mixing in international crime themes and voices (Russia, USA, Mexico).

Raconteur at work

To best appreciate “New York City Is Closed”, you need to realize its author, Art Stone, is a raconteur. He delights in telling stories. He loves fine wine, the best food, beautiful women, the world’s premier restaurants, and its grandest hotels. All these tastes flow into his writings, his settings, his characters, and his prose. This stunning page turner grabs your attention and your senses from the prologue through the conclusion 222 pages later. Stone has crafted an unusual terrorist story, unusual because of the motives of the terrorist leader and the book’s emphasis on him. The image of that villain, Gregory Eden, will stay with you long after you finish the novel. Stone is a personal, long-time friend of mine, and I see much of him and his personality in this novel. Readers will enjoy meeting him through his writing as much as I enjoy his company on Long Island.

A great read from beginning to end with a very relevant scenario for our times. The characters were developed well. Looking forward to a sequel to follow the continuation of the two main characters. An exciting adventure that takes you for a ride to foreign lands but ends right here in the most exciting city in the world. Definitely worth the read.

As a lover of all things New York, a fan of fast paced writing, and ever impressed with getting it all done under 400 pages, I highly recommend this book. I hope Mr Stone stays in his NY venue for his next adventure!
